Overview

A large, distributed military organization faced a capacity challenge in delivering individualized nutrition support at scale. Traditional staffing models alone could not keep pace with demand, resulting in unsustainable practitioner workloads, fragmented data and reactive care delivery.

Teamworks Nutrition enabled enterprise wide scaling of personalized nutrition support, preserved long term data continuity and avoided significant staffing expansion through technology enablement.

Challenge

The military organization faced a capacity gap. Demand for individualized nutrition support outpaced what staffing models could realistically sustain. Performance dietitians were responsible for supporting a large, geographically dispersed force under conditions that far exceeded recommended industry standards. Practitioners were managing caseloads 12-15 times higher than recommended for effective, individualized performance nutrition.

At this scale, support shifted toward reactive intervention, rather than proactive performance optimization. Without a centralized system, nutrition support relied on fragmented tools, manual workflows and inconsistent communication. This fragmentation created cascading challenges across  three levels:

Organization: no unified approach to nutrition support across dispersed units, limiting continuity of care as personnel moved between commands or deployed

Practitioners: manual data consolidation and administrative tasks consumed time that could have been spent on care, limiting practitioner reach

Service Members: disconnected systems and slow turnaround times made it difficult to receive timely support when it was needed most

The challenge was not a lack of expertise, but the absence of scalable infrastructure needed to deliver that expertise across the force.

The Solution

Teamworks Nutrition provided a centralized, secure platform that standardized workflows while preserving the ability to deliver individualized nutrition support at scale.

Organization: it  created a unified nutrition infrastructure. All nutrition planning, communication and longitudinal data were centralized in a single system, enabling continuity of care as personnel moved between commands or deployed

Practitioners: automated workflows reduced administrative burden and streamlined data analysis. This allowed practitioners to build personalized plans and analyze nutrition data more efficiently allowing them to reach larger populations while maintaining individualized engagement

Service Members: the mobile app provided immediate access to personalized meal plans, direct secure messaging with their dietitian and the ability to log intake regardless of location. This puts expert nutrition guidance at their fingertips.

By addressing challenges at all three levels, the platform enabled the organization to scale individualized nutrition support without the unsustainable cost of proportional staffing increases.

The Results

Measured outcomes following adoption of Teamworks Nutrition demonstrate impact across three levels: organizational capacity, practitioner effectiveness and personnel engagement.

Organization Impact

  • 385% increase in nutrition support capacity expanding coverage from 3,750 to 18,166 personnel
  • Avoided the need to hire ~199 additional practitioners to maintain equivalent support levels
  • Preserved over five years of longitudinal nutrition and performance data across 18,000+ personnel

Practitioner Impact

  • Each practitioner enabled to support 3-5x more individuals
  • 5000+ personalized meal plans created, reinforcing sustained individualized care
  • 3,600+ direct messages exchanged between practitioners and personnel

Service Member Impact

  • 665,000+ meal plan views, reflecting active access to individualized nutrition guidance
  • 315,000+ meals logged, enabling real time feedback and personalized adjustments to their nutrition plan
  • 21,800+ resource views of nutrition education materials

Teamworks Nutrition created continuity of care across geographically dispersed units, streamlined practitioner workflows to expand their reach and put expert resources at the service members’ fingertips.  Matching current coverage through hiring alone would require approximately $23.88 million in personnel costs. The platform closes that gap, enabling practitioners to operate at scale without sacrificing personalization.

Conclusion

Through the adoption of Teamworks Nutrition, the organization transformed nutrition support from a fragmented, reactive model into a scalable, sustainable program. Performance dietitians remained focused on delivering high quality, individualized guidance, while infrastructure managed scaled, data visibility and continuity across the enterprise, enabling expanded reach without proportional staffing growth.
